Chinese Video Project

While I was at FSLA my Mandarin Chinese instructor made us do a video project in Chinese. I would like to share this project because we were given less than a day to complete this project. We all did the best we could and I am so proud of it. I worked really hard but what made it so special was the fun I had with my classmates. Please take a few minutes to watch this video. Mice Love Rice

I was working on homework while I had my iPod on shuffle and the song 老鼠爱大米 (Mice Love Rice) came on. I learned at FSLA that this song is one of the most popular love songs in China; the song has become one of my favorites. This song ended up distracting me and inspired me to practice writing characters. I figured I would start by practicing the phrase most people like to learn: I love you. Believe it or not, this took me a while to make!!! Chinese characters can only be drawn perfectly, or at least close to perfect, with time and patience. After a good 35 minutes I finished!

I Finally Received My Transcript

My counselor has informed me that my transcript has arrived at the school today. I went by her room to check out how I did and I am proud to say I passed FSLA with a 90! I am extremely happy at the moment because I know all my hard work paid off. All those hours of constant studying and non-stop school work were definitely worth it. Not many people are able to handle Mandarin Chinese because of how hard and demanding it can be. Now that I know that I passed the class with an A I feel a lot more confident about furthering my studies on Mandarin Chinese.

Well school has started and I am still eager to keep on learning Chinese. To make sure I don’t forget my goal, I wrote my Chinese name on the cover!

Updated Hours: 200

I cannot believe I am actually leaving UNG in less than one hour. My bags are packed up and I’m just waiting to say good bye. This last week has been extremely busy. Preparing for the final exam took a lot of time but I am confident that I did well on the test. Even though I am leaving today I plan on continuing my education on Mandarin Chinese. This program was very demanding but I think it was all worth. FSLA has truly been a life changing experience and I it will be a memory I will never forget.

I Did It!!!

Outcome of Challenge Day

Today I had to speak all day in Chinese. This challenge has been one of the hardest things I have had to do in my life! It was a bit frustrating at first, because I could not understand what my instructor or tutor were saying. After approximately two hours of only listening to Chinese, my brain became more comfortable and it was easier to comprehend. By lunch time, I was having a conversation with my Tutor, Yi, about our hair. She was saying random things to check how well my understanding was and to my surprise it was better than I expected. We ended up talking about dying our hair purple with pink highlights and as silly as it sounds, I felt pretty accomplished because I understood everything she said. These three weeks have been amazing and I am satisfied because I actually learned the fundamentals of the Chinese language. FSLA is definitely something everything high school student should do.
